Almadies (Virage)

Also known as Almadies, Le Virage, Plage du Virage, Ngor

Advanced Reef break Rock bottom Peels right 1–3.5 m Mid tide

The west-point of the Cape Verde peninsula, the westernmost tip of Africa, and the swell-magnet for Dakar: a reef-and-beach mix off the Almadies headland with a fast, bowly right over rock on the south side and shifting beach peaks on the open-ocean side. It picks up swell from every direction and is the most powerful wave around Dakar, especially on a solid south swell. Île de Ngor, just offshore, has an additional right accessible by boat.
