Norway's most consistent open-ocean beach break and the country's cold-water surf hub: a horseshoe bay on the Stadt peninsula that faces the full force of the North Sea, with sand-bottom peaks along the crescent and a left off the northern headland on a big south swell. It holds size to double overhead and is where a wave-riding community and a small surf camp have grown up despite sub-Arctic water. Season is essentially autumn-to-spring; summer is flat or tiny.

Getting there
Drive to Hoddevik on the Stadt peninsula (signed from Bryggja on the E39). A 6mm suit, boots, hood and gloves are required outside high summer. Very limited services — bring everything.
